Navigating Nutrition When Life's Not Smooth Sailing

Hey! Coach Anna here. My husband and I just welcomed our second little one into our family about six weeks ago, and as I started to type that life was starting to look ‘normal’ for us, I laughed at that word because…What even is normal? If normal is nursing my daughter while sitting on a step stool in front of two-year-old singing ‘e-i-e-i-o’ while he poops on the toilet, then yes, life is totally looking normal.

Bringing our daughter into this world has been a complete shift in almost every way possible. A shift in mindset, perspective, daily routine, family dynamics, priorities, the list goes on. But when you think about bringing a whole new human into this world and just instantly throw them into what already existed, you’d assume that’d be a hard-left turn… right? And yet it has still jolted and shook us in the best way possible. I don’t have enough time to sit on my phone and scroll through social media because my time and attention is towards my kids. I have to be much more intentional about communicating and connecting with my husband because we don’t have that time in the evenings like we used to. I have to prioritize my nutrition even more so than before because I am not only fueling myself but fueling to feed my daughter as well. I have to be intentional with my time spent working out because I have no clue how long I’ll actually get before a binky falls out or a nap runs short. All of these things may sound frustrating or negative, but they are actually wonderful shifts that have needed to happen and have been welcomed into my routine now that we have two kids. Do all of these things happen on a daily basis and am I running a smooth sailing ship? Absolutely not, I am still working out the kinks as I learn and grow with my kids. But I am giving myself grace and remembering that with everything new comes with a little bit of a rocky start and the benefit and rewards of my daily, consistent actions are plentiful.

Sound familiar? Nutrition is pretty similar. If you are just starting to prioritize your nutrition or you’ve been on the fence about working with a coach for a while now, you may be intimidated about what change may need to take place in order to see progress towards your goals. You may need to spend a little more time in the kitchen learning how to cook and prep your own food. You may need to work on more positive self-talk and find a healthy support system in your life that encourages the lifestyle you’re wanting to live. You may need to take out some unhealthy habits that have been hindering you towards your goals. Does this sound frustrating and hard? Of course it does, but the rewards are many if you stay consistent and adherent to the new shifts that have to take place.

Life can take some hard-left turns, and if you look at them in a negative light you can easily see that turn leading straight into a crash. But what if you took hold of the wheel, eased your way around that left turn, and ended up exactly where you wanted to be? Wouldn’t that be beautiful.
