Eyeballing Macros
The hustle and bustle of life can mean a lot of eating away from the comfort of your home and food scale. In times where accuracy is lower, we still want to practice proper portion control. The easiest way to do this is using our hands as guides. Wherever we go, our hands will be with us, so it makes the most sense that we use these as guides for estimating serving sizes. Ninja Tip: Take a photo with your hand beside your meal to estimate later as to not take away from the social experience. ● Closed fist is approximately 1 cup (125g) ● Tip of the thumb is approximately 1 tablespoon ● Cupped palm is approximately 1-2 ounces (roughly 55g) ● Flat-size of the palm is approximately 3 ounces (85g) To best hone in on these skills, it is recommended to practice estimating. While you have the chance to weigh and measure your food, test yourself by estimating the serving size and then placing it on the scale to see how far off you are. Eventually, you'll begin to get better and this will translate to more confidence in situations without a scale.
