AIM NUTRITION COACHING

Don't be a Polly

Summer is near. School is out, the schedule is a little clearer, lake days are back, and routine is nowhere to be found. You had a goal of making your nutrition a priority, buuuuuut you’ll just wait until the fall when things slow down, and you have a better routine, or the kids are back in school.

Don’t put it off, Polly.

We hear this a lot. Either wanting to ‘take a break’ during the summer because it’s just not doable to find consistency in nutrition or wanting to wait until summer dies down and fall routine comes back so it’s easier to keep consistency and routine with nutrition. But let me tell you a little secret… It’s never going to be easy and there is never going to be a perfect time to start focusing on your nutrition. There will always be something to be seen as a barrier to keep you from committing to your relationship with nutrition, so why not now?

At AIM we think it’s best to just start when life is crazy, because why not learn something when you are in the thick of it so if the chance that it does slow down, you are already dialed in. If it’s not summer, it’s the start of sports or school, and if it’s not the start of school it’s the holiday’s, and if it’s not the holiday’s it’s… and the cycle continues. There will always be an excuse, but it’s more about whether we decide to use that excuse or set ourselves up to not have the chance to use that excuse. It will always be there, but it’s your choice whether you use it or not.

If you are on the fence about your commitment to your nutrition, here’s a couple of things to consider:

Priorities: If you truly think there is no time or place to focus on your nutrition, then you may want to sit down and lay out where your priorities currently lie. If something is a priority in your life, then you make time for it no matter what. Is your nutrition one of those? If it isn’t, you may have to realign your priorities with your goals and decide what kind of system it’s going to take to properly execute those goals into reality.

Time: Do you really believe there is going to be a better season to commit to your nutrition? If it’s not summer BBQ’s and club sports, it’s school events and fall gatherings, and then Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and everything in between! Life always hands us something we don’t expect, so commit while life is throwing wrenches and show everyone just how bada** you are at dodging.

Expectations: We never want this to be a short-term diet fix. We don’t expect you to skip every summer BBQ, go hungry at every gathering, only smell ice cream but never eat it, or never be able to spontaneously go out to dinner with your family. Because that’s simply not sustainable.

If we expected that of every client, we’d literally have 0 stars on Yelp. Our goal as your AIM coach is for you to learn balance, and that’s going to look different for every single person. It’s our priority to allow you learn sustainable habits and systems while building a healthy, long-term, relationship with food. This includes eating habits, mindset, priorities, food quality, time blocking, and everything in between. If your expectation is to go hard for 30 days, set unrealistic boundaries and goals, lose poundage on the scale and expect it to keep it going, we probably aren’t for you. We hope you come to AIM with a direction you want to go and leave AIM with a map you know by heart. This journey doesn’t have an end point, but it does have multiple destinations that are truly glorious.

Don’t be a Polly, let’s get after it.
