The Gray Area

For anyone battling perfectionism, the gray area is hard.

For the top achievers and high performers, the gray area is hard.

For those afraid of failure, the gray area is hard.

For those battling the pull of an all-or-nothing mentality, the gray area is hard.

I’m sure all of us fit into one of these categories at some point in our lives.

But the uncomfortable middle -the gray area between black and white, all or nothing - is where the magic happens.

It’s the happy space between chronic yo-yo dieting and going full “screw it” mode.

It’s the place where we learn more about how to fuel ourselves in a way that allows us to live the best lives possible.

We are so very opposed to marketing that pushes 30-day detoxes, quick fixes, and yo-yo diets, but also believe that the anti-dieting marketing isn’t always helpful, either.

There is a gray area between these two extremes.

We believe you can love and appreciate your body and still want to change the way you look or the way you feel.

There is a messy middle that can be navigated safely and sustainably.

We believe that you don’t have to restrict yourself to Tupperware chicken-and-broccoli meals to reach your goals and that you don’t have to deprive yourself of meals out with friends and family dinner for the sake of a few pounds.

Food is not meant to be associated with guilt and shame, and we don’t EVER think that reaching a specific weight, shape, or size should be more important than our physical or mental wellbeing.

We believe that it’s ok to have goals, even if those goals are geared towards changing body composition.

We believe that it’s ok to want to look and feel your best, and making adjustments to your nutrition is generally the best way to do so.

A diet is not bad. Restriction, shame, guilt, and obsession are.

There is magic in the gray area -- the space that leads towards flexibility, freedom in your food choices, and positive, sustainable habits that will serve you for life.

The next time you want to beat yourself up for “messing up” (hello, long 4th of July weekend) or find yourself overwhelmed with extreme opposing messages telling you that progress requires white-knuckling your way to perfection, or find yourself fretting over “good” or “bad” foods.....

remember that gray area.

And remember that we are here navigating that gray area right alongside you!
