The Benefits of Fat

Fats play an imperative role in our ability to survive and thrive. Here are just a few of the amazing things fat does in your body:

  1. Fats facilitate the transportation and absorption of the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K and regulate hormones.

  2. The omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA support cardiovascular health, joint health, and digestion.

  3. Fats slow down the digestion of your food which helps with satiety and keeps you fuller, longer!

Where Can I Find Healthy Fat?

  • Fatty fish (like salmon and mackerel)

  • Oils (olive, avocado, sesame)

  • Nuts

  • Seeds

  • Ghee

  • Avocado

  • Egg yolks

Struggling to keep your fat grams under your target?

First, notice in your tracking app everywhere you are getting your fat intake from. Next ask yourself, “Are any of these fat sources less nutritious than the others? Could I remove that from my diet?"

Great fat swaps:

  • Sweetened coffee creamer for unsweetened almond milk or low-fat creamer

  • Cooking oil for oil spray

  • Regular peanut butter for PBFit or PB2 powdered peanut butter

  • 3 whole eggs for 1 egg + 2 egg whites

  • 85% beef/turkey for 93% or 96% lean meat

  • Full fat yogurt for non-fat greek yogurt (this will boost your protein too!)
